Cardiff (Almost) Blow It Again

Cardiff
3 - 2
Brentford

Cardiff City Stadium

15/12/15

Attendance: 12,729

Referee:

Cardiff's Championship season continued with a three-two against Brentford at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, which had seen a two-nil lead lost again for a third-match in a row.

Charlton loanee Tony Watt, who could well become a permanent signing in January, put Cardiff ahead early on when he followed up a Craig Noone effort that had been saved by David Button with Kenwyne Jones combining with Watt to put the Bluebirds two-up (and in control) when he scored at the second attempt before half time.

Jake Bidwell pulled one back for Brentford in the second half and then John Swift (greeted by home boos) equalised four-minutes left to earn the Bees a point, at least it seemed that way!

Jones turned it in Cardiff's favour in injury-time though as his close range finish, after good work from Fabio and Scott Malone, made up for the squandered lead once more with many fans having already left....

At nil-nil Anthony Pilkington had headed against the bar before Watt followed up a Craig Noone effort to put Cardiff ahead.

Brentford 'keeper Button kept his side in it as two-nil when he saved from Watt in the second half, which would have finished the game (almost certainly) even if two-nil isn't enough of a lead for the Bluebirds these days, who remain just outside of the play-off places due to other results.

These were the other results.

Looking at these results the stand out ones (so far) have to be wins for Middlesbrough and MK Dons.

Whereas a reference has to be made to both Cardiff and Brighton, who lost two-goal leads! In the case of the Bluebirds though they recovered to beat Brentford three-two but the Seagulls had settle for a two-two draw with QPR that saw them lose top spot.

Middlesbrough's fine run (of cleansheets too) went on with a one-nil win over promotion rivals Burnley with this win at the Riverside Stadium seeing them claim the lead in the Championship ahead of the top of the table meeting with Brighton this weekend!

Play-off pushing Sheffield Wednesday saw their hopes suffer a setback with a surprise setback at MK Dons with Karl Robinson's side running out two-one winners to collect an important three-points at the Stadium:MK.

It'll be another full schedule this coming weekend, the final games ahead of Christmas.
