Vital Report: Cardiff 0 Derby 2

Cardiff
0 - 2
Derby

Cardiff City Stadium

31-1-15, 15:00pm

Attendance: 22,287

Referee:

Derby could even afford to miss a penalty against us on Saturday as they put that behind them to beat us at the Cardiff City Stadium to keep them in a position we would love to be in, second in the Championship.

Cardiff were already in a very difficult position, once again by half time, with it us 2-0 down if it wasn't for that penalty miss then the game would have been finished without a doubt. That 2-0 half time lead is how it ended.

A chance to lead was spurned early by Derby, having been fouled by Aron Gunnarsson it was Chris Martin who stepped up. Their top goalscorers penalty was weak though with Simon Moore, again filling in for David Marshall, saving easily.

It didn't take long for Derby, and more to the point Martin, to make amends though.

Martin was involved in a move that put in Jeff Hendrick, who went onto Jamie Ward with his low cross was finished off by Scott Malone's first goal since his arrival, sadly in his own net, when it deflected off the former Millwall man and past Moore.

The Bluebirds threat was minimal with Alex Revell's effort from the edge of the areas the closest we came, and first effort we managed, in the opening half an hour or so with the second, and decisive, Derby goal coming in first half injury time. Cyrus Christie had come on as an injury replacement with his cross seeing Martin get up above Lee Peltier to head home.

The damage was done, there wasn't a way back in the second half.

Derby could have added a third but Moore denied Mason Bennett with Kenwyne Jones, despite his goalscoring record of late, limited to a place on the bench but he almost scored with his first touch after coming on. Craig Noone's cross was headed goal wards by Jones but Lee Grant kept him out.

That's now four defeats in a row, the play offs look a million miles away and more worryingly we're now looking over our shoulders at the relegation places as we're only seven points above the drop zone, Russell Slade might also be looking anxiously over his shoulder too!
