Vital Report: Cardiff 1 Reading 2
Cardiff City Stadium
It was a reverse scoreline on Saturday when Cardiff played Reading in the FA Cup. In November we beat them 2-1 in the League but a late goal saw the visitors into the fifth round with a 2-1 win at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Since that win for the Bluebirds quite a lot has changed, as it has at Reading really, with our latest departure confirmed before this game with John Brayford signing for Sheffield United, as expected.
Reading were the better of the sides early on with Oliver Norwood and Nathaniel Chalobah both going close, Norwood shooting just over with Simon Moore pulling off a good save to keep out Chalobah.
Having not really caused much of a threat Alex Revell, who was paired with Kenwyne Jones, set up his partner with Jones forcing Adam Federici into his first save. His next effort wasn't kept out mind! Peter Whittingham's corner was headed home by Jones who kept up his goalscoring run with half a dozen now scored in his last eight game and 12 for the season.
The closest Reading came to levelling before the break would be Pavel Pogrebnyak being denied twice in succession by Moore.
After the break though Norwood's deflected effort forced Moore into action again, his save kept us ahead but the warning signs continuing to grow with it little surprise when the equaliser finally came.
Sean Morrison foul on the edge of the area on Pogrebnyak gave Norwood the chance, and he duly obliged as he converted the resulting freekick to level up the tie.
When Moore denied Jordan Obita a draw was looking likely, and a replay at the Madejski Stadium on, but six minutes after coming on Welsh international Hal Robson-Kanu converted Obita's cross to give Reading the win.
As the saying goes "we'll concentrate on the league" now, as we look to salvage something from our season.
