Vital Report: Port Vale 2 Cardiff 3
Cardiff were pushed hard by Port Vale on Tuesday but we had too much for the League 1 side as we progressed into the third round of the Capital One Cup.
As promised OGS made plenty of, the whole side in fact with everyone changed from the side that lost in the Championship for the first time at Wolves on Saturday, meaning Federico Macheda made his debut and Kagisho Dikgacoi and Javi Guerra made their full debuts.
Port Vale started well with Simon Moore saving well from Louis Dodds, showing that he's got the potential to be a good long term successor to David Marshall when the time comes.
It was Joe Ralls, who was so effective in our win over Coventry City and captain on the night, that also showed that he's a player with ability and potential with his 25-yard effort giving us the lead.
Port Vale soon levelled things up with Michael O'Connor seeing Ralls and raising him with an even better strike after a freekick was teed up to him.
It was a impressive debut for Macheda too with the former Manchester United striker marking his debut with a goal on the hour to restore our lead, converting a Declan John cross from the left.
Macheda then showing his finishing prowess again by rounding Chris Neal, after going through one on one with the Port Vale goalkeeper, following Guerra's to give us a cushion with ten minutes to play and but for the crossbar would have celebrated a debut hat trick.
Port Vale battled on but Michael Brown's late goal came too late and we advance.
