Cardiff's Super-Kev McNaughton!

Cardiff City defender Kevin McNaughton scored his first ever goal for Cardiff City yesterday in the FA Cup, and it was a superb way to open the account as the Scotsman lashed home a volley from outside the Hereford United penalty area.

The goal would have helped McNaughton get over the unfortunate own goal he scored in the last round to give non-league Chasetown an unlikely lead.

McNaughton joined from Aberdeen several years ago, making him one of the longest serving players at the club. Whilst he doesn't score many, his performances on both sides of the defence have made him a crucial player in the Cardiff City squad.

Still young, he reads the game superbly and has pace, tenascity and impressive stamina. His versatility is a big asset and he is comfortable on both sides as well as impressing in a central role when necessary. He has also been one of the most consistent players in the squad over the last few seasons.

Whilst he hasn't been too fortunate with Scottish call-ups, he may get more chances under new manager George Burley. Certainly he has plenty to offer although with a scoring record of 1 goal in 65 starts for Cardiff - don't expect more than a solid and effective defensive contribution!
