'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ex-Cardiff Man Was 'Complacent'

Former Cardiff City winger Malvin Kamara, now impressing for Huddersfield Town, has spoken of his time at Cardiff and believes it may have been a lack of effort that saw him released.

Kamara was one of a number of 'short-term gambles' taken by Dave Jones. He was released by MK Dons but joined up with Cardiff mostly as a squad player and to see what he had to offer. Other players brought in to the same end included Nick McKoy, Luigi Glombard and Ndumbu-Nsungu. However, Kamara was the only one who broke into the first team, raising eyebrows when selected over Willo Flood for an early season victory over Leeds United.

His energetic and strong performances saw him a regular on the bench and some success as an impact player. Full of confidence and belief, he looked the part and caused problems for other sides, he also found the net with a well struck shot in a 4-0 demolition of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, he failed to emulate his early form and a January loan move saw him join Port Vale on loan, evenually moving to The Terriers over the summer.

Speaking on his icons.com homepage, Kamara believes his recent good form in league 1 is down to more application in training:

'When I was at Cardiff I started getting complacent. I wasn't putting my heart and soul into training and I think my performances suffered as a result.'

I spoke to other players and they said step it up in training. I did that from day 1 at Huddersfield and I think the results are showing now.'

Of the many many fringe players brought into the squad by Dave Jones, Kamara was one of few to shine. He was certainly not the finished product or a fully fledged Championship player but showed potential on top of excellent pace and strength.
