Welshpool v Cardiff: ON. (Preview)

Cardiff City look set to finally play their FAW Premier Cup tie with Welshpool tonight, at the third attempt. A pitch inspection at 9.30am found the condition to be playable.

The winners will meet Newport County in the semi-final, and with Swansea City and Wrexham already knocked out, Cardiff would be automatic favourites for the competition.

However, this year, as previously, we will not be taking the competition too seriously and will again field a side packed with youth. This tactic has seen us crash out in recent years to Carmarthen Town and The New Saints.

However, some first team players are included and add vital experience to the cup squad. Out of favour defender Darren Purse will skipper a side containing potential star Aaron Ramsey and veteran Kevin Cooper while Matt Green returns from injury to lead the line. Darcy Blake is suspended and cannot play.

This will be a tricky game against a solid LoW outfit. The pitch and conditions will favour the part-timers and we will need to battle it out to get the result. The tie will be completed tonight, with extra time and penalties to be played if necessary.
