Cardiff City striker Steve MacLean is hoping for a piece of the action when his former club Sheffield Wednesday visit Ninian Park tomorrow.
The Scottish striker has been limited to a bit-part role this season with the arrival of Fowler & Hasselbaink, and the form of Paul Parry restricting his opportunities and a poorly timed injury keeping him out.
MacLean started the game against Chastown and set up Peter Whittingham for Cardiff's well timed equaliser. However, Hasselbaink was rested for that game and he is likely to return to the starting line-up for the visit of the Owls. In addition, fellow Scottish striker Steve Thompson is also pushing for a recall after serving a 3 match ban and being named on the bench since.
MacLean spoke fondly of his old club, he told the South Wales Echo:
'I was sad to leave Hillsborough, but it happens in football. Wednesday made me an offer I had to refuse. There were no hard feelings. it was nothing to do with Brian Laws.'
'I didn`t think the club`s offer was acceptable and neither did my representative. I had to look elsewhere.'
MacLean was something of a fans favourite at Hillsborough but has failed to find form or a scoring touch so far at Cardiff City. He wants a run of games in the side to get his season back on track but will do well to force his way into the starting XI. He needs a goal or two from the bench first, what better time than now, against his former club.
