Cardiff Snubbed By Spurs Ace Alnwick

Cardiff City have missed out on the loan signing of Ben Alnwick, the Tottenham Hotspur England U21 goalkeeper has opted to join fellow Championship side Leicester City instead of the Bluebirds.

Cardiff City have been searching for a successor to Neil Alexander but have failed spectacularly. No suitable candidate was identified during the summer, so Cardiff opted for a season-long loan of Ross Turnbull from Middlesborough. That was a mistake with the inexperienced 'keeper looking uncertain and unable to command his defence. After a series of mistakes, Turnbull was actually recalled by his home club to cover injury - but that was a blessing in disguise for City.

Michael Oakes failed to make the number one shirt his own, so Cardiff brought in Danish goalie Kasper Schmeichel on loan from Man City. That was a short term solution to the problem, and whilst Kasper performed very well and make a significant contribution - he was recalled to Man City leaving Cardiff short of quality at the back.

Ben Alnwick was targetted, but has now moved elsewhere so Cariff must continue their hitherto fruitless search. Gregorz Szamotulski is one the City scouts have watched, he is available and has impressed at Dundee United but did not sufficiently impress Dave Jones.

Tim Krul, Thomas Sorenson, Stuart Taylor, Roy Carroll, Dimitrios Konstantopolous and Dorus De Vries are all goalkeepers linked with Cardiff City since Alexander's departure but no move has materialised.
