Cardiff City came from a goal down to beat struggling Preston on Saturday and the three points propels the Bluebirds into the top half of the season as 2008 begins.
ardiff have struggled this season, and have been far further down the table than expected, spending much of their time dangerously above the relegation zone. There were calls for manager Dave Jones to be sacked, and an emergency board meeting was called to discuss the predicament.
ince then, however, Cardiff City have been much improved. Results have been much better of late, but naticable too is the spirit, character and determination shown by the players. Gone is the flat, clueless and cumbersome passing exhibited early season and we now have some real attacking threat when in possession and the ability to turn a poor first half in difficult conditions, into a hard fought win and valuable three points.
he latest win is the Bluebirds 4th win in 6 Championship games, while (then) league leaders Watford needed a 5th minute equaliser to nick an undeserved point. There have been two defeats in the last 10 matches, one of those being an unlucky defeat to Bristol City, playing well and with 10 men.
he run has propelled City away from the relegation zone and into their highest position since an early season win at Norwich. Obviously much more of the same is needed, and a better team than Preston would have been out of sight at half time.
e are now just 5 points from the play-off positions, looking more a realistic goal as the season wears on.
