Cardiff's McPhail Picks Up Ban

Cardiff City midfielder Stephen McPhail will not be available for the New Year's Day clash against Plymouth Argyle.

The Republic of Ireland player collected his fifth booking of the season for a tackle on Preston defender Matt Hill. That includes yellow cards in consecutive matches for the cultured player, and one who had racked up a fair number of fouls this season. See Stephen McPhail - Mean Machine!

McPhail's absence could mean a rare start for one of Cardiff's talented youngsters Darcy Blake or Aaron Ramsey. For more likely however, is the inclusion of either Steve Thompson (Returned from a 3 match ban) or Steve MacLean i attack, with Paul Parry reverting to a wide right role.

That switcharound would mean Peter Whitingham swapping to the left side, and midfield dynamo Joe Ledley moving to a central role.

Cardiff City are looking to continue their patch of decent form and collect their third home win on the bounce having dispatched Colchester United adn Sheffield United at Ninian Park.
