Cardiff's Fowler: New Injury Blow
Cardiff City striker Robbie Fowler picked up an ankle ligament injury in training and will not be available to replace Steve Thompson tomorrow as we play Sheffield United.
It was expected that Fowler would be recalled after returning from a hip operation, but this latest injury blow puts him out of contention again.
Steve MacLean will not feature in attack but Fowler's fitness is a real worry. He had been out of action for a month after hip surgery, but returned to the bench for the last two games. He was not used, but has suffered a new set-back as his opportunity arose from Thommo's red card.
Manager Dave Jones told the Echo today:
"Robbie`s ankle came up like a balloon and he is having scans, he was tackled during training and suffered an impact injury."
"It`s a big blow for Robbie because he has worked hard to regain fitness."
Fowler has 4 league goals for the Bluebirds, including two penalties. However, his impact has been limited and disrupted by niggling injuries. He could face a few weeks on the treatment table again and will almost certainly be unavailable for the duration of Thompson's suspension.
