Cardiff's JFH: Top Of The Shots !

Cardiff City striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is the surprise division leader when it comes to shooting. The veteran striker has come under fire this season, despite a bright start, and has his critics amongst the Cardiff faithful.

The former Chelsea man is strong as an ox, but has lost most of his pace. Unable to make the surging runs of old, he has adapted his game but in recent weeks he has looked a little jaded and cumbersome. A poor performance against Leicester, including some lacklustre shooting and wayward distribution saw him dropped.

However, the official football league statistics show Hasselbaink to the the most regular shooter in the league. Not bad for a side failing to create chances! Even more surprising after Hasselbaink seems to take too long over his shots and regularly is closed down too quickly!

However with 39 shots on target, 20 off target and 3 shots hitting the woodwork, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink tops the Championship charts. No-one comes close to his cumulative number of shots on target save for Ishmael Miller-34 (West Brom), Pable Counago-30 (Ipswich Town) and Ricardo Fuller-28 (Stoke City). Charlton Athletic's Andy Reid is the only player to match JFH's 3 times hitting the woodwork.

It's a good ratio of shots on target, even more impressive that most of Jimmy's shots come from the edge of the area but it remains that he only has scored 4 league goals, despite being our most regularly used striker. His goals have been good ones, from a good striker against Watford, to a flowing move and finish against Colchester United.

Perhaps the likes of Stephen McPhail, and others can learn from Jimmy and sho-o-ooot when the chance presents itself rather than trying to walk the ball in....!
