Cardiff Star 'Pleased To Be Back'

Cardiff City's in-form striker Steve Thompson has spoken out over the peculiar circumstances that has seen him play his way back into contention, the first team and propel himself up the scoring charts.

The big striker has 3 goals in 4 games, including a 25yard rocket to beat Blackpool. However, Thompson was on his way out of Ninian Park over the summer after being transfer listed.

Dave Jones decided that Thompson's goal tally was insufficient last season and made the ex-Rangers man available for transfer. Preston North End showed interest and a move was near when Thommmo injured his groin after falling off an inflatable banana boat whilst on holiday.

The injury has proved a stroke of luck for the Bluebirds as Thommo has been resurgent and looks the most effective striker in the Cardiff squad at present.

Thommo told the SW Echo:

'If I hadn't been injured then I would not be at the club now. It's just a matter of fate I am still with Cardiff City and not playing at another club.'

'It had been kind of agreed I would move on, but my injury put paid to that.'

'From then on it was a completely different mindset to get myself back in the team, which I've done. I've worked hard to achieve that - and I'm really pleased I'm back.'

Thommo is in great form and has really worked hard on his game. He remains on the transfer list, something which Dave Jones had apparently 'forgotten' but if he is not removed then there will surely be interested clubs in January for a powerful frontman with good strength and an eye for goal.
