Cardiff: Left, Right, Left, Right !!

Cardiff City have adopted a cunning new symetry to outfox their opponents and, so far, it seems to be working.

The recent inclusion of Kevin McNaughton at left back means that all four of the first XI defenders to start the last two games, have been right-footed. McNaughton is perfectly comfortable on the left and joins Johnson, Loovens and Gunbter as natural right-footers in the defence.

The midfield is the complete reverse however! In the same team-re-shuffle, Jones switched Ledley to the centre allowing the re-call of Peter Whittingham on the left. Paul Parry is a regular operator on the right wing, but is primarily a left footed player and uses that to good effect cutting in from the right flank. This means that Whittingham, Ledley, McPhail and Parry are all left footed.

Cardiff City also currently favour two right-footed players up-front (Steve Thompson and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink), although Robbie Fowler is the only left-footed striker in the squad.

Its a strange co-incidence that all defenders are right footed, with all midfielders being left footed but it seems to be working. We have struggled with the balance, but do have an adaptable group of players. This makes it even more unforgivable that our style has been so rigid and inflexible but the last two games have been won with the peculiar formula.

Long may that continue.....!
