Spurs Vultures Circle Over Cardiff
The Premiership vultures appear to be hovering over Cardiff City amid their current financial crisis. The club is locked in a legal battle with mystery company Langston, with further delays or losing the case likely to result in administration for the club.
One unwelcome and inevitable consequence is that our talented youngsters will come under more scrutiny from other clubs looking for a cut-price bargain. One player in particular is highly rated youngster Chris Gunter, proven now at Championship and International level and one of the bright spots in a poor Cardiff season so far.
Everton were known to be tracking the 18 year old, and made a firm bid last year. However, new interest from White Hart Lane means that Cardiff City's resolve could be severely tested with Tottenham Hotspur prepared to spend big under new manager Juande Ramos. In fact, Spurs may be able to offer as much as £5m for the youngster in a bid to team him up with fellow Welsh full-back Gareth Bale.
The North London club have had scouts at recent Cardiff City games to track Gunter, while an un-named Premiership club made a formal enquiry recently and will report back with a bid in January.
Although that fee would include various add-ons and bonuses based on future appearances, EURO qualification etc - it is a serious amount of money and would likely be considered.
We certainly don't want our best players to leave, but it seems increasingly likely that we will not be able to hang onto all three potential gems (Joe Ledley, Chris Gunter, Aaron Ramsey).
