'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cardiff v Colchester (Match Preview)

Cardiff City play host today to Colchester United with both teams failing to live up to their successes of last season and languishing close to the foot of the table.

The U's lost key strike duo Chris Iwelumo and Jamie Cureton and have suffered despite landing veteran Teddy Sheringham.

Managed by Welshman and Cardiff City fan Geraint Williams, the U's have just one win in their previous 9 games and have lost 3 of the last 4. Col U certainly have struggled on their travels this season and Cardiff have to force a win after crashing to a desperately disapointing defeat to Charlton.

Cardiff City have been dogged by off-field problems but the on-field form is bitterly disappointing and must be rectified soon. After an encouraging series of results, the last game saw a dire performance by the Bluebirds - one of the worst in many years as they struggled to string any meaningful moves and barely mustered a shot all game.

Both teams must look for a morale boosting win today, with three points so important for confidence as well as league position. It's likely to be a tough encounter, and close in scoreline with both sides looking to grind out a win.
