Cardiff City have received a formal enquiry regarding one of their young players from an un-named Premiership club.
Club chairman Peter Ridsdale was asked whether the recent performances for Wales by Joe Ledley and Chris Gunter had put them in the public eye more, to which Ridsdale told the Western Mail:
'Funnily enough, we`ve had a fresh inquiry in the last 48 hours about one of them.'
'We will wait to see if the Premiership club involved, who it would be unfair to name at this stage, come in with a tangible bid in January. But they seem genuinely interested.'
More sceptical fans will see this as a publicity exercise looking to raise the profile and prices of players ahead of the January transfer window.
Ledley (Birmingham & Wolves) and Gunter (Everton) have attracted strong interest recently and are both doing particularly well this season. However, supporters will not want to see either of them leave in January and Ridsdale also re-iterated his stance that every player has his price:
'We don`t want to sell. We want every single one of our youngsters to help take Cardiff City onwards and upwards.'
'If we were to receive what we consider to be a knockout blow in terms of the money on the table, then clearly conversations would have to take place.'
'We will see what figure this particular club comes in with in January and take things from there.'
We cannot expect to improve if we continue to sell our most promising players. We got a good price for Chopra, but failed to spend wisely and are currently paying the price. For a team supposedly on the up, it should be players like Feeney or Byrne leaving in January with one or two quality players coming in to strengthen.
We wait and see......
