Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has made a slightly baffling comment following The Bluebirds' 0-0 stalemate away to Leicester City. Ridsdale told the SW Echo:
'I hope that puts the nonsense about changing manager to bed once and for all.'
'Let's concentrate on moving forward from this point and earning as many points as possible.'
Now I comepletely and wholeheartedly agree that the speculation helps no-one. In this case, the players have responded following intense pressure, but many factors would have impacted.
However, Ridsdale failed to back his boss after the 3-0 reversal at Charlton Athletic, and media reports spoke of a 2 game time period for results to change - the outcome of a board meeting specifically called to discuss DJ's future.
That meeting was now, apparently 'nonsense', and it sounds like Ridsdale never really considered sacking the under fire manager despite insisting he would if necessary.
A meeting with the supporters implies he would change the manager if things did not improve and whilst 4 points from two games is a huge improvement and wholly welcome, it does not yet signify a full revival.
'Unbeaten in two' is not a fearsome tag to have, and we have only scored once in those two games - a good effort from a midfielder. We still have problems and the two results serve only to buy Jones more time.
See where we are at Christmass would be a far more appropriate message than dismissing our fears as nonsense Mr Ridsdale. We all want to put it behind us, and would love the players and manager to have our full faith and backing, at present they do not deserve it.
