Cardiff Youngsters Shine For Wales

Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ledley helped the national side to a 2-2 draw in the capital against Republic of Ireland.

Ledley caught the eye with an impressive assist for the opening goal, dummying the ball before beating Steve Finnan and crossing for ex-Bluebird Jason Koumas to head home.

Ledley was playing on the left of a midfield five, a slight disappointment for Cardiff fans who want to see the youngster given the chance in a more central role, but Ledley was heavily involved soon after, crossing for Robinson, whose shot went over when he should have done better.

Ireland scored twice after Keane and Kevin Doyle were givren too much space by the ex-Cardiff partnership or Gabbidon & Collins. However, sub David Cotterrill won a late penalty for Wales, cooly dispatched by Koumas to earn a share of the points.

Another major plus for Wales was a full, competitive 90 minutes for young full-back Chris Gunter. The youngster has hardly featured for Cardiff City this season, but looked determined and tidy in a hard-fought International match.

Both players will hope to be involved in this week's match against Germany, before returning to club duties and trying to save their manager's job !!

Its beggar's belief that an 18 year old is picked for national duty in a qualifier, despite not evn getting in his side at lower championship level. Coped really well considering
