Cardiff's Dave Jones 'Ticking Clock'

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones faces an anxious wait to discover the outcome of a board meeting to discern his future at the club. After a woeful run of results, now dating back almost a year, Jones has come under fire and club chairman Peter Ridsdale refused to back his manager in public after a 3-0 loss at Charlton Athletic.

Ridsdale has promised to act if a change is in the club's best interests and will make a decision soon, telling the Western Mail:

'I expect to make a formal statement about the situation here within the next couple of days,'

'I am not prepared to let the obvious confusion and uncertainty which is surrounding the club continue for any length of time.'

'That is only fair on everyone concerned, be that the management or the supporters.'

Jones could be sacrificed, allowing a new manager to come in and assess the squad before the January transfer window. A new man would have some good players to work with and a change could instil some confidence and new ideas into our beleaugured team.

Another move would be to keep Jones as manager, but change other members of the coaching staff. Terry Burton's position is also under threat and a new assistant would be less expensive and less drastic a change.

One final option open to Ridsdale is a possible move of Dave Jones 'upstairs' i.e. to a more hands off role in some kind of Avram Grant or Lennie Lawrence (!) Director of Football capacity. However, attracting a new manager would be more tricky with Dave Jones still at the club.

Whatever happens, we ought to hear about it soon. The support of Dave Jones has dropped dramatically recently and the International break would be the best time to sack him, if that is the option favoured by Ridsdale - check back for the latest at Vital Cardiff City!
