Cardiff Star Bold Claim For Start

Is Steve MacLean the man to fire Cardiff City from their current slump?

Well, the man himself certainly thinks so! MacLean joined on a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday over the summer, the Scottish striker had a good reputation for goalscoring and is a mobile striker with intelligence on the pitch. He also never missed a penalty for the Owls.

A storming pre-season saw Cardiff fans install MacLean see here as their most likely top scorer. However, a missed penalty on debut (!), injury problems and the arrivals of Fowler and Hasselbaink have paused MacLean's Cardiff career at present with the striker not selected on the bench in favour of Steve Thompson.

Doubts have grown over whether the Fowler / Hasselbaink partnership can work, with a lack of mobility and movement in the channels restricting our threat. City find is difficult to get their veterans into the game, and their lack of pace means a change in tactics, something we seem unable to do and MacLean reckons its time for his chance. He told the South Wales Echo:

"I`m fit, I`m ready and if the gaffer needs me, I`m raring to go."

"I felt I was doing OK early in the season and then the injury hit me hard. I have worked back to top fitness and if I am given a run of games, I will score goals."

Do you think it's time for a change up-front? It is Thommo, MacLean or both who can save us now? Let us know!
