Charlton Athletic are Cardiff City's next opponents and will provide a stern test if the Bluebirds are to overcome their recent poor form and disappointing run of results.
After relegation from the Premiership last season, Charlton oversaw a huge influx and efflux of players losing some big names but also strengthening in the form of Iwelumo, McLeod, Varney and Todorov. All strikers with a mixture of youth, pace, potential and experience.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was released by the London outfit and has joined Cardiff City, he will be fired up against his former club and has a point to prove to some of his growing doubters in South Wales.
The Addicks has started the season in solid fashion, currently sitting in 4th place and have adopted a useful knack of stealing points - something we are not familiar with. Injury minute winners from Chris Iwelumo in the previous 2 games have seen two points become six.
However, those back-to-back wins come on the end of a 3 match losing streak so Cardiff certainly gave a decent chance against an inconsistent Charlton side who are still yet to fully click.
Players like Iwelumo and Irish international Andy Reid will cause problems and The Valley will be a difficult place to pick up points.
Cardiff City are on a wretched run and players, manager and Chairman alike have come in for close scrutiny from fans and media. Just one win in ten games is a paltry return for a team with quality players and purported to be stronger than last season's squad.
Having taken just 2 points from the last 12 on offer, Cardiff City are under pressure and desperately need to overcome the slump. Changes in personnel are called for, but Dave Jones has displayed a staggering faith to his starting XI and will likely trust them again. They all have a point to prove, and could take all three points if they perform properly.
However, the lack of confidence, spark and cutting edge are severely limiting us while an inability to hang onto a lead must be equally frustrating for players and fans alike.
A more positive attitude is called for and the importance of this game is evident to many. It's too early to be season-defining but a win could very well save the campaign.
