Cardiff 'Raffle' For Shirt Sponsor

Cardiff City are offering a novel opportunity for prospective sponsors of the team shirts for the last season to be played at Ninian Park.

In recent years, the Bluebirds have been sponsored by the South Wales Echo, Leekes and Ken Thorne Cars. All three are fairly large local businesses while current shirt sponsors Communications Direct are a South Wales based mobile phone company, expanding all the time. These companies have helped Cardiff City and all maintain an interest in the club, often sponsoring programmes or match balls.

However, the new initiative aims to give even smaller companies a chance at such good visibility where they would normally be outprices.

The club intends to 'raffle' the shirt sponsorship, tickets costing £1000 meaning that much smaller businesses are in with a chance and the club will not lose out financially with the expected revenue of £500k still generated through the sale of 500 tickets.

Club chairman Peter Ridsdale spoke to the South Wales Echo:

'It`s a novel idea which will allow all local companies, big and small, to join in.'

'There are 250 tickets for the home sponsorship and 250 for the away shirt.'

'Tickets cost £1,000 each - and a draw will decide whose name will go on team shirts.'
