Cardiff City Cup Keeper Crisis

Some poor decisions have landed Cardiff City in trouble for tonight's Carling Cup match with Liverpool is a key position - with goalkeepers a serious worry for the game.

Kasper Schmeichel, the newly instated number 1, is not eligible due to the terms of his loan from Manchester City. The club do not want the player to be cup-tied when he returns after an initial 1 month loan.

Cardiff's previous loan keeper Ross Turnbull was eligible, but was recalled to his club Middlesborough FC.

That leaves David Forde and Michael Oakes on Cardiff City's books. Not ideal, but no disaster as both have some experience and have been first choice in their time with the Bluebirds.

Except that Forde played in a previous round for Luton Town whilst on loan at Kenilworth Road. The Bluebirds did not opt for the cup clause so Forde is cup-tied and unavailable. A strange decision.

This leaves just Michael Oakes to start with an unknown and untried youngster in Josh Magennis (reserve team keeper) to feature on the bench.

There were whisperings at the home game last Saturday that Oakes would not be available due to a family problem, we must hope this is not the case as we desperately need a goalkeeper tonight with Peter Crouch, Babel, Benayoun and co to contend with.
