Cardiff's Fowler Returns 'Home'

Cardiff City's veteran striker Robbie Fowler makes an emotional return to his spiritual home tonight to take on his former club.

Fowler enjoyed two spells at his hometown club, scoring prolifically and earning a fanatical following. He is still idolised and known as 'God' to the Reds fans and can be sure of a warm reception.

Liverpoll boss Rafa Benitez has been full of praise for his ex-player, who joined Cardiff on a free over the summer:

'I am sure that he will be able to pass on a lot of experience and know-how to the young players at Cardiff.'

'The atmosphere with him was always good. He was always joking, and was also very respectful and professional.

'I expect and believe he can score 20 goals for Cardiff and be the top scorer in their division. That would please me. And he is still more than capable of scoring against our defence.'

Benitez also joked that is would be fitting for Fowler to score once again at Anfield:

'Maybe we can arrange for him to score once more in front of the Kop, but only when we are winning 3-0.'

Fowler has shown glimpses of his talent at Cardiff City, but has yet to find his full groove and will be desperately looking to improve his tally tonight against his former team-mates. His place is coming under threat from the re-born Steve Thompson as the Fowler/Hasselbaink partnership comes under scrutiny.

He was very unlucky with a free kick at the kop end, I am sure he would have loved to score.
