'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cardiff v Saints (Manager Comment)

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones is understandably disappoijnted in his post-match interview after Southampton beat his side 1-0 despite being under pressure for the majority of the match:

'We totally dominated the game and we really should have gone on to win.'

'We created enough chances to get back into it. Not many teams will come here and give George's team a bit of a pasting. We have rolled them over, but not done any real damage.'

'They were snatching at chances. The players need to take responsibility. If the players cannot live up to the expectation, then they will have to go. But I believe that I have enough here if they can become mentally stronger. It was very frustrating.'

The clean sheet, and the three points were all that mattered to George Burley - happy with his side's efforts:

'We have been playing some good football at times this season, but that wasn't the case today, what we did do though was work our socks off and we have kept a clean sheet.'

'We had a lot of spirit and, when you have got spirit, you have always got a chance. That is what won us through today.'

How many times has Dave Jones said this sort of thing this season? Too many times. Apparently I 'm not the only one who thinks that Rae and MacPhail are simply underperforming and it's time they were reminded that they're supposed to SCORE GOALS too. Why Jones took off Ledley, the best of the midfield four I don't know. Some of us are beginning to wonder whether Jones himself should be taken off. A good win agaInst Wolves is VITAL!

the ledley decision was surely cos he played twice for Wales this week, while the others were resting
