Cardiff Sunk By Saints -Fan Reaction
Cardiff City were good for mush of the match. I thought Gavin Rae had an exceellent game in attack and defence, he at least looked to inject some pace and direction into proceedings.
I was also impressed with how McNaughton / Capaldi coped with the potent threat of Nathan Dyer. The tricky winger swapped sides but got short thrift from our two defenders despite ripping other sides apart and looking a real danger - he was largely anonymous against the Bluebirds.
However, in general it was all too slow and laboured, Paul Parry used pace down the right, but the crossing wasnt great and there were usually 2 defenders with him - long looped crosses are no good to us - we need quick, direct passing.
Stephen McPhail was not on form for me, I saw very little contribution from him as the game drifted him by. We need him to take it by the scruff of the neck and get on the ball in every move but always the pass is sideways and we do not appear able to cope with teams pressing us.
The whole team was guilty of not being direct enough while no-one took responsibility to shoot when opportunities came. We had similar chances to Stern John's, but opted to take a touch.
I think we write this game off. We have been scoring goals, and that was the main problem against Southampton. A little more precision will go a long way and we are not far off some really good form. We do need to go on a run, and soon, but we're not missing much and it will come.
