Cardiff City midfielder Stephen McPhail has been extolling the virtues of being a 100% person on and off the field. McPhail spoke to BBC correspondant Matt Jones about the beneficts of dedication and hard-work.
McPhail is a quiet and unassuming character off the field spending as much of his free time as possible with his young family. On the field, he can be a hugely influential figure and when on form dictates play superbly and can control the game.
Although slight, McPhail is not afraid to get stuck in and has actually given away more fouls than any other Cardiff City player in the league this season - Dave Jones has seen fit to appoint McPhail captain for most of the season to date with regular skipper and stand-in Darren Purse and Riccy Scimeca unavailable through injury.
'I want to play in the Premiership again if it`s the last thing I do.'
'That`s all I`d dreamt of since I could walk and kick a ball. I didn`t want to throw it away so I hung in there. If you get a break you`ve got to take it. If you get a chance, give it a go and don`t give up. Try to be as good as you can be.'
McPhail joined at the beginning of last season on a free transfer from Barnsley FC. He was booed at Oakwell this season after joining Cardiff City for their higher ambition than the Tykes. He missed the last game through injury but is in contention for this weekend's trip to Southampton FC and will almost certainly be involved.
