Cardiff City Overcome Burnley 2-1

Cardiff City beat Burnely by 2 goals to 1 to record a welcome first home win of the season.

After a bright start it was (man of the match) Joe Ledley who broke the deadlock with a fine header 10 minutes before half time - a rare assist for defender Darren Purse who sent in a good cross from the right.

A triple substitution soon payed dividends for the visitors, Ade Akinbiyi getting his head to a Jordan cross.

Burnley looked a different side with Elliot instrumental but Cardiff also had chances and an excellent individual goal from Paul Parry restored the Bluebirds lead. Parry drove home from 20 yards after a Hasselbaink pass.

Cardiff never looked comfortable with the threat of Blake, Gray and Akinbiyi and Oakes was called into action on several occasions.

The defence looked shaky every time the ball was lofted into the area but Cardiff held on and ran down the clock impressively to record a first win since March.

Full report to follow Monday.
