Cardiff Fans Want New Centre-Back

A recent poll on this vital Cardiff City site invited readers to vote on:

Which area most needs strengthening in January?

Suggested By: bluebird04

Goalkeeper. 29%
Full-Backs. 4%
Centre-Backs. 45%
Wingers. 1%
Central Midfield. 11%
Strikers. 6%
Depends On Injury Situation. 1%
None - We Have Enough. 3%

The result was a resounding 'yes' to squad strengthening (when isn't it?!) and two positions in particular were popular.

The main area seemed to be central defence with Johnson/Purse/Loovens deemed insufficient especially with the injury proneness of Purse and Loovens in particular. Although strong in that area in personnel, it seems more depth is wanted.

In addition, a new goalkeeper was seen by many as a priority. Ross Turnbull has looked hapless and been dropped, Michael Oakes looks safe so far but is old while David Forde is yet to impress.

Fans are happy with the wide positions with the likes of Ledley, Sinclair, Parry and Whittingham making this a strong area for the Bluebirds.

If we are to remain in a promotion race, we will need to strengthen in January as Birmingham and Sunderland did last year. We also need more quality to the signings rather than Jason Byrne and Warren Feeney who have made no impact yet cost £175k last year.
