Cardiff's Purse Fresh Injury Trouble

Cardiff City's captain and experienced centre-back is taking longer than expected to return from knee surgery.

Purse suffered a tear to his medial meniscus in the knee during the Carling Cup victory over Leyton Orient a few weeks ago. Although sore, the injury was not serious and Purse was due to be back to full training after 3 weeks.

However, it has now been revealed that Purse picked up an infection to the open wound during surgery. He has been undergoing antibiotic treatment, but has suffered a loss of strength and weight, meaning he is not ready for the vigours of full training or first team action just yet.

There are injury doubts over fellow centre-back Glenn Loovens, who has a persistent foot problem, meaning the Bluebirds are looking weak at present in one of their strongest selection areas.

Hopefully Purse wwill be be in action soon to help take the strain off others in the hectic period coming up when City have 6 games within 18 days.
