Fowler Wages Worry Cardiff Fans

Robbie Fowler is a huge name, and his signing has created a new buzz in South Wales as well as the media-associated hype that follows a reputation suce as his. Only last year, Fowler was helping Liverpool to Champions League wins over Chelsea FC, PSV Eindhoven and a brace against Turkich ginats Galatasaray.

A question posed by Vital Cardiff member ANDYGUY asked readers their thoughts on the wage packet Fowler picks up from the club:

Is Robbie Fowler's reported £15k per week wage too much?

Yes. It's obscene! 71%
No - he's worth it! 17%
Reserving judgement for now. 12%

A fairly clear picture of the feeling amongst Cardiff City fans. It's well documented that we have been in financial
trouble recently, and the Fowler deal is way outside our usual wage structure.

Some help from companies has been used to pay Fowler's weekly wage, as well as increased revenue from marketing and merchandise.

Since Fowler's arrival, he has picked up £100k, making just one league appearance. That's the transfer fee for Steve Thompson or Warren Feeney just in wages alone.

It is a gamble, lets hope it pays off. We can't put all our eggs in a Fowler shaped basket and see him miss the season injured - we need 10 goals minimum from him.

10 Goals! Are you joking?! You need a lot more than that from him considering the gamble you've made in buying him.

A good point andleics, the 10 goals is based on Fowler sharing striker duties with the other strikers in our squad. It's unlikely he will feature every week, so a minimum of 10 goals seemed reasonable, with Hasselbaink and MacLean also getting 10 and other strikers Thompson, Parry and Byrne getting 5 apiece.

I agree 100% andleic. Lsat season we were expecting around 10 goals from Steve thomson who worked his socks off and never produced, and then we transfer listed him.So why should we expect less from fowler one of the premiers all time great scorers in a lower division, even though he may play less games. By the way a nice goal by thompson with his foot from a narrow angle, comeing back from injury...Fowler comeing on after 60 mins suggest he is still not fit. Although his presence on the field seemed to allow more space for others to play their game...
