'Ginge' Rejected Cardiff Loan Move

Former Cardiff City defender James 'Ginge' Collins was the one to reject a loan move to re-join his former club. Collins moved to West Ham as part of the deal taking Gabbidon to Upton Park for a combined fee of £3m.

Since then, Collins has struggled with injuries although has impressed when his opportunities arose. However, the recent changes at West Ham have seen both Gabbidon and Collins thrust down the Hammers pecking order by the arrival of Matthew Upson, the former Arsenal and Birmingham City centre-back.

However, even with chances likely to be limited, Collins has chosen to fight it out at West Ham and try to regain his place:

'I need to be in London and pushing for a place back in the side and still train with the first team, not a couple of hundred miles away out of the thick of it.' Collins told the South Wales Echo.

Its disappointing to miss out on such a player, when it now seems that West Ham would have allowed the switch. Darren Purse is ruled out for the Bluebirds, and Roger Johnson picked up a late knock against Norwich City while makeshift centre-half Kevin McNaughton is also sidelined.

Cardiff City are thought to be working hard behind the scenes to identify another suitable target, although a sourse inside the club has hinted that the chase for Collins may not be completely dead yet.

would of been good to see ginge come back to ninian, i think he would of had more of a chance to get into the hammers team if he came on loan to us, he would of had some first team games under his belt, and would of had more games under his belt than the likes of mathew upson. but at the end of the day it was his own choice
