Cardiff City could have to rest new striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and delay his Championship debut even longer.
Hasselbaink was some way behind the other players in terms of match fitness but impressed during the Carling Cup 2nd round win over Leyton Orient. He played the full 90 minutes, and looked sharp, denied a goal by the heroics of O's keeper Stuart Nelson.
However, he may not be fit enough to join the squad for this weekend's game against Norwich City, after limping from the stadium after the Orient match.
City manager Dave Jones told the SW Echo:
'Jimmy fell awkwardly in the first half and he has a badly bruised ankle.'
The Cardiff City medical team are assessing the injury but Hasselbaink faces a race against time to recover for the Norwich clash. There's no doubt he'll want to play, but Jones may decide to wait rather than risk the powerful forward - especially now that Robbie Fowler, who also game through the midweek game, is now available to bolster the frontline.
