Veteran Strikers Impress For Cardiff

Cardiff City opted to start the game with both Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink up front in the Carling Cup victory over Leyton Orient.

Neither had featured for the first team, and were omitted from the squad for the 1-0 reversal to Coventry City.

Both players did well in the match, and, encouragingly both lasted the full 90 minutes although Fowler in particular looked tired at the end.

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was pleased with both players, but stressed it was too early to expect too much from them, DJ told BBC Sport:

'They are still two games away from flying, but we saw good runs and forward thinking off them,'

'They didn't score, but on another day they could have got a hat-trick each.

'The important thing was that they got 90 minutes each and they feel OK after it - although I think they'll be taking the lift not the stairs at the hotel!'

Both players could feature in this weekend's Championship game with Norwich City and will look to open their Cardiff City accounts then after both were denied by the woodwork of fine saves from visiting keeper Stuart Nelson.
