Cardiff City's Tony Capaldi has been released from the Northern Ireland squad due to face Leichtenstein tonight.
The left-back sustained a knock in Cardiff's 2-0 victory over QPR on the weekend, and has not recovered in time to play for his country. Initial indications were that Capaldi has suffered a dead leg but he has had trouble with his hip and been forced to wirstraw from the N.I. squad.
Should Capaldi fail to recover for this weekend's game, Cardiff have a selection issue. Kevin McNaughton is already out, so Joe Ledley will fill the left back position, and Gunter the right.
This gives the Cardiff City back 4 a very young look about it. Ledley (20), Gunter (17), Loovens (23) and Johnson (24) are all relatively inexperienced and a case could be made to include Darren Purse.
A recent article, found here, extolled the virtues of youth in our squad and selected a strong looking line-up of Cardiff City youngsters.
However, Coventry City have some experienced and impressive stikers, and the added leadership of Purse could help the youngsters Ledley and Gunter on the flanks.
Nevertheless, Loovens and Johnson have had two good games together and we have conceded just one goal in 300 minutes of football.
I would stick with Johnson and Loovens, we are a good side and have some talented youngsters. It would be a kick in the teeth to drop someone after a good Saturday performance.
