Cardiff Rocked By McNaughton Blow

Cardiff City's early season preparations have been given a blow by an injury to one of their vital players - Scottish International Kevin McNaughton.

The tenascious Scot has impressed since moving to Cardiff from Aberdeen. A pacy and intelligent full-back, he can play on either side adding versatility to our back-line as well as being an excellent defender.

McNaughton was withdrawn shortly before half time on Saturday and early indications suggest that he may be sidelined for 6 weeks, possibly more. The hamstring injury saw him stretchered off and clearly in some discomfort.

Teenage defender Chris Gunter is the obvious choice to replace McNaughton. The youngster played well on Saturday and enjoyed a 1st season full of promise and determination last year.

It is a great deal of pressure for the 18 year old, but he has shown himself worthy to it and will look forward to a run in the side. Another teenage right-back, Matt Smith, is the only other cover for that position but Gunter has the ability and will be relishing the challenge.
