Cardiff Target Moves to Preston

Cardiff City target Andy Carroll will not be signing for the Bluebirds after joining fellow Championship club Preston North End on a loan deal.

The highly rated Newcastle United forward was available for a loan spell with opportunities likely to be few and far between in a Magpies squad boasting Michael Owen, Alan Smith, Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka and Shola Ameobi among its ranks.

A large and powerful striker, Carroll also turned down Hull City and Celtic before agreeing a move to Deepdale.

Cardiff City are still pursuing other alternatives as they bid to add to their squad before the transfer deadline. They have been looking to add a big striker all summer, but have struggled to find a suitable candidate available for the right price.
