Cardiff City vs Stoke (team news)

Cardiff City face Stoke City in the Championship opener on Saturday 11th August.

Cardiff will give first competitive starts to new signings Gavin Rae, Steve MacLean, Tony Capaldi and Trevor Sinclair.

On-loan Ross Turnbull could also start in goal in place of the Irishman David Forde.

Cardiff have injury doubts over Riccardo Scimeca and Robbie Fowler, the latter could recover in time to take a place on the bench if he shakes off a thigh strain picked up on debut last week.

One difficult choice for Jones is whether to include captain Darren Purse, short on match fitness, or to stick with the promising duo of Loovens and Johnson.

Stoke City have added some late signings to their squad after announcing the signings of Dominic Matteoand a loan deal with Ryan Shawcross - a tall Manchester United defender brought in to cover for Carl Hoefkens.

Jon Parkin has now joined permanently and will compete with Richard Cresswell and Riccardo Fuller for the starting spots.

Stoke also welcome back the versatile ex-Saint Rory Delap who missed much of last season with a broken leg.

It promises to be a good game between two of last season's play-off challengers, both with changed squads. Ninian Park is nearly sold out and finally - Football is back!!!
