Cardiff City's hunt for their elusive striker seems to have been ongoing for eternity.
A multitude of names have been linked, while several have moved elsewhere (Leon Best, and Stoke's Jon Parkin who will line-up against us this weekend).
We know several to have been genuine targets, Rowan Vine and Steve Howard have both impressed Dave Jones and would fit the bill - although neither Birmingham City or Derby County are particularly willing to part with their players.
One name, mentioned regularly in recent weeks is Andy Cole. The veteran striker was a January target for the Bluebirds last season, and has since been released by Portsmouth. However, Peter Ridsdale has denied the rumour - this time a more forceful 'no' than in the past.
We know P.Riddy is not a fan of 'open transfers' where the fans and press know the target etc, and has such been denied speculation regarding most players. However, he may look a little foolish of Cardiff did sign Cole after he told the Western Mail:
'Andy Cole is not the sort of player we`re looking for at this moment in time.'
I for one am glad. We have an experienced striker in Robbie Fowler, and, though we would love a proven goalscorer - we are lacking in pace and presence up-front and signing Andy Cole would be a massive gamble.
All irrelevant, as we were apparently never interested !
