Cardiff City saw off a decent footballing outfit this weekend in front of an impressive crowd for a pre-season game.
Dave Jones gave a strong indication of his starting line-up for next weeks Championship opener against Stoke, and picked a strong and well-balanced side.
Unfortunately, Robbie Fowler, the main reason for the inflated gate was withdrawn as a precaution after feeling his hamstring tighten. However, his replacement Warren Feeney needed just 4 minutes to fire the first goal. He brought the ball down neatly in the area and swivelled to fire home from 8 yards.
FC Twente were a neat team, and played some attractive football with intricate passes and clever flicks. However, they hardly carved a decent chance all match, and were superbly marshalled (in stark contrast to last week) by a well organised defence.
A second half worry for Cardiff was a painful looking injury to Glenn Loovens. He went in for a tackle with an intensity far higher than normal for a pre-season game - but its hard to criticise the player who is a 100% man through and through.
The best player for me was Trevor Sinclair, who looks a great signing so far. He is assured in possession and provides quality ball and showed he still has a trick or two left in him.
A good result and decent performance to end the pre-season on a high. The build-up has been encouraging and with another striker promised - we can certainly compete if the confidence stays high.
