Fowler Set For Bluebirds Bow

Cardiff City new recruit Robbie Fowler has suprised the fitness coaching staff with his perfromance levels and general health. He is now due for intensive work to build up his stamina and match fitness before making his bow on August 4th.

Cardiff's opponents that day will be Dutch side FC Twente and a large number of fans are expected to turn up to welcome the former Liverpool legend to Ninian Park.

A club statement confirmed that Fowler would play no part until then, though it makes sense for the striker to get some game time before the season kicks off the following weekend when Stoke are the visitors in the Championship openers.

There is stiff competition for the starting striker positions with Steve MacLean, Warren Feeney and Matt Green all having scored during pre-season and Jason Byrne looking to prove himself after being prolific in the Irish leagues.
