Fowler 8, Replaces Chopra at Cardiff

Cardiff City's new signing Robbie Fowler has arrived to replace outgoing striker Michael Chopra - in more ways than one.

Chopra was the lynchpin last season for the Bluebirds. He typified their enthusiasm, work rate and capped it off by scoring the goals. We missed him when he wasnt there, and when he wasnt scoring - neither were the team and they plummeted down the league.

Many Cardiff fans worried when Chopra was scored, without him we looked like relegation fodder - who would score the goals? Thompson, Feeney and Byrne look far less than prolific and Steve MacLean is new and also injury-prone.

In Robbie Fowler, Cardiff have themselves - if nothing else- a goalscorer. His goals record is impressive and he is a natural finisher, cool under pressure and an intelligent player who will cause problems. Liverpool fans do not refer to him as 'God' for nothing.

So Fowler is brought in to fulfill Chopra's role as main goalscorer, it will be good to see the goals shared around more evenly this season, and Fowler has in addition been allocated the vacant number 8 shirt, vacated by Chops when he left to join Sunderland.

We have replaced a young, raw, pacy and intelligent striker, with an experienced, adaptable and natural one - making a £5m profit in the short term. Chopra's sale was inevitable but Cardiff have brought in someone who can do just as well.
