Cardiff Squad Review: J Chambers

After an up-and-down season, Cardiff City finished comfortably mid-table. A scintillating start was followed by a dismal end and the same players looked half as effective as previously.

VitalCardiff brings you an end of season review of each player. If you disagree then feel free to leave a comment at the foot of this article or e-mail Vital Bluebirds with an alternative review!!

The reviews will be published every weekday between 10-11am:

James Chambers on loan from Watford.

Chambers joined Cardiff on loan between November and December as defensive cover and started every City game in the 1 month spell.

Primarily a right-back, Chambers slotted in comfortably on the left side of Cardiff's defense and helped them maintain their table-topping position although the form has just started to wobble.

In the 7 games he played, Chambers looked defensively solid. A strong tackle and good positional awareness saw him form part of a solid denfensive unit. The Bluebirds conceded 7 goals in those 7 games, a reasonable return given a 3-1 defeat to Colchester Utd and an impressive win over eventual Champions Sunderland AFC.

Some doubts remained over Chamber's apparent reluctance to attack. He rarely took on his man or tried anything ambitous. This was entirely understandable from a player finding his way back to first team football and at a new club.

Cardiff failed in a bid to extend the loan and Chambers returned to Watford on the request of Aidy Boothroyd. Cardiff did not follow up their interest ofter the capture of Tony Capaldi and Chambers later signed for Leicester City.
