Alexander In Ipswich Move ?

Former Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Alexander moved closer to finding a new club yesterday after strong rumours linked him with a switch to Ipswich Town.

The Scottish International reluctantly moved from Cardff City this summer after club and player could not agree on a new deal. Since then, Cardiff have struggled to find a replacement but last week signed veteran stopper Michael Oakes as cover for number 1 David Forde.

Ipswich Town and Cardiff City both fought hard to sign Richard Wright, after his release from Everton. He eventually joined West Ham and the Tractor Boys look to have turned their attention to Alexander.

However, Ipswich boss Jim Magilton played down speculation that talks were at an advanced stage, telling the ITFC official site:

'We are aware of Neil's situation but it's no more than that at this stage.'

Cardiff fans have been a little bemused that Alexander left on a free and the only replacement is a 33 year old free transfer released by rivals Wolves. Alexander is 29 and coming into his prime, he had a good season last term and Cardiff have yet to find an adequate replacement.
