'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Carmarthen 2-0 Cardiff City

Cardiff City's weaker looking half squad travelled West to play Carmarthen but went down to the League of Wales side who will enjoy UEFA Cup football this season.

I wasn't there but have heard good things about the triallist Charalambides who proved a tricky customer with quick feet and an accurate cross.

The main moment of note was the second goal conceded by City, with the referee making an awful decision. Glenn Loovens used his thigh to knock the ball back to his goalkeeper but was penalised for a back-pass. City defended the set piece poorly and Town grabbed their second.

Although the side was weaker than the side to play Merthyr, the likes of MacLean, Loovens, Capaldi and Rae should have been able to outplay the hosts.

I am told that there were no goal attempts of note by the Bluebirds and they looked a slow and pedestrian team with little forward ambition. The big striker (Steve MacLean) looked useful but never threatened.

FT: Carmarthen 2-0 Cardiff
