Cardiff Winger To Miss Training

While most Cardiff City players have been holidaying with their families or in talks over new contracts, former Aston Villa man Peter Whittingham has been in Holland competing in the EURO U21 Championships.

Whittingham has been representing England U21s who crashed out to home side Holland after a thrilling 13-12 penalty shoot-out.

As a result, Whittingham has had no rest following a tiring season with the young midfielder unaccustomed to playing on a regular basis until his January switch to Cardiff City.

Manager Dave Jones has now granted Whittingham leave to miss the squad's return to training. He will instead join the team on the pre-season trip to Portugal after a short time to recover.

Jones spoke on the offical site:

'He has been in regular training so the last thing he needs is to come back and do a hard pre-season.'

'So he will now have a break, he won`t be coming back when we report in.'

A well earned break for Peter who can then return with renewed energy and enthusiasm as he begins his first full season as a Cardiff City player.
