Cardiff City's Mystery Goalkeeper

Cardiff City's Mystery Goalkeeper

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones keeps his cards close to his chest on transfer matters. Never more-so than the current search for a goalkeeper.

Whilst Peter Ridsdale has been busy denying speculation left, right and centre regarding potential striker options - goalkeepers have been a far more secret affair.

Dave Jones revealed we are close to a capture:

'I've spoken to the lad, a Premiership goalkeeper, and it's just a matter of trying to sell him the club'

However, we have little idea who it is. It was strongly hinted previously that our target was an English goalkeeper.

That may not be the same target as Ridsdale has now said we could be after a loan deal.

Scott Carson was linked last season, and has been again this season while some reports saw Roy Carroll as the Bluebirds target. In addition, veteran Ian Walker and Newcastle's highly rated stopper Tim Krul have also been mentioned. Richard Wright (Everton) and Thomas Sorensen (Aston Villa) were previously mentioned.

Despite the speculation, no-one seems to really know the identity - but it seems the player still needs some persuading or is waiting for any other offers. Dave Jones interrupted his holiday to speak to the player in California.

We await the news of a signing this week, and need to move quickly to get everybody in for pre-season and the tour - allowing the rebuilt squad some time to gel.
