After an up-and-down season, Cardiff City finished comforably mid-table. A scintillating start was followed by a dismal end and the same players looked half as effective as previously.
VitalCardiff brings you an end of season review of each player. If you disagree then feel free to leave a comment at the foot of this article or e-mail Vital Bluebirds with an alternative review!!
The reviews will be published every weekday between 10-11am:
7 - PETER WHITTINGHAM
Whittingham arrived from Aston Villa in the January transfer window right in the middle of Cardiff`s awful run. He immediately added a spark to the side and looked dangerous operating on the left flank. Whitts was soon among the goals and scored in consecutive games, including a 30 yard screamer against Coventry - a wonderful finish.
Towards the end of the season however, Whittinham`s form faded and he drifted through games without having much impact. He has never played so regularly in his career and did appear a little tired but still showed some nice touches and dangerous crosses.
Whittingham ended the season with 4 goals from 18 games, a good return for a midfielder in a team in woeful form. He has shown a great deal of potential and ability and can become a good player for the club. He will compete with Joe Ledley for the wingers position and may find a starting position less easy to obtain following the arrival of Capaldi - hopefully the England U21 starlet can step up and show consistently the form we know he is capable of.
